Thesis Proposal
Stemming from seemingly random observations of my everyday life, my thesis body of work, entitled “________”, is a study of my psychological reception of visual imageries from my personal experience. Mechanistic visuals, contradicting integration of organic and inorganic and the abject qualities of the uncanny body are the fundamental elements I use to investigate the re-occurring components of my visual imagery such as, loss of control, beauty, revelation, death, futility and fear of the unknown. The kinetic-mechanistic aspect plays different roles throughout my work, the animation of inanimate objects have always stirred up curious imaginations and emotions. For example, the feeling of losing control over my work and it taking on a life of it’s own when I power the work for the first time.
The thesis exhibition will be comprised of five (or six) works housed in a cross shaped shelving-like structure which serves as a grid that connects and maps out the connection or progression behind the created visual imageries. The cross shape of the kiosk will allow me to divide my explorations into four areas; Eyes, teeth, mice, and final section. The five works will be the stop-motion animation My Eyes (re-worked and presented through a monitor), Chew and Spit Machine (re-worked), Floating mice (to be finished by late February).
I also plan to have several different approaches to each subject matter. So, the complete number of works housed in the kiosk will be around ten.
